ADAM STERN

Partner

Prior to co-founding Hillstar Capital in 2014, Adam was a Principal at American Capital, a publicly traded private equity firm and asset manager with approximately $20 billion in assets. At American Capital, Adam led the Consumer, Retail and Food group and has invested in various industries including industrial, niche manufacturing, business services, healthcare, and consumer. He was most recently on the Board for two portfolio companies, Imaging Business Machines, LLC (IBML) and Pacific Handy Cutter (PHC) and was a board observer for Rug Doctor.

Before American Capital, Adam was at The Riverside Company and participated in four acquisitions and was on the Board of several companies. Previously, Adam was at Park Avenue Equity Partners and The Chart Group in NY. Adam began his career in the investment banking division of Lehman Brothers in the Energy Group.

Adam graduated with high honors from the University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business where he earned a BBA in Accounting and a MPA in Taxation. He has passed all four parts of the certified public accountancy exam.

Adam lives in Dallas with his wife and three children. Adam enjoys playing sports, rooting for his Houston and Texas sports teams and spending time with his wife and kids. He is also a Board Member of Ann and Nate Levine Academy.

MIKE EVANS

Partner

Prior to joining Hillstar Capital in 2014, Mike was a Partner at Ancor Capital Partners. At Ancor, Mike was responsible for investments in the food and general manufacturing. Mike led investments in and served on the boards of FCA Packaging, Liguria Foods, Inc. and Fresh Food Concepts, Inc.

Before Ancor, Mike worked at JMK International, a diversified Southwest holding company, owned by Al Micallef. From 1986 to 2006, Mike was promoted from part-time Accounting Intern, to Purchasing Manager, to Vice President, to President, to Co-Managing Director and Board Member. During his career at JMK, Mike was responsible for the overall management of businesses including rubber and plastic manufacturing, restaurants, food manufacturing, aviation, wine importing and marketing, real estate development, farming and ranching. At JMK, Mike co-founded and acquired multiple businesses in a wide variety of industries. Mike worked in a wide variety of domestic and international industries with extensive experience in sales, finance, procurement and operations including multiple start-ups and turnarounds.

Mike is a graduate of Texas Christian University with studies in Finance, Accounting and History.

Mike lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife Allison and his twins William and Magdalene. Mike enjoys writing, history, golf, hunting and fishing. Mike is a member and past Chapter Chairman of Young Presidents Organization and involved in multiple outdoors organizations.

JEFF MACDOWELL

Partner

Prior to joining Hillstar in 2015, Jeff was a Managing Director at American Capital, a publicly traded private equity and asset manager with approximately $20 billion in assets. While at American Capital, Jeff most recently led the private equity teams for the Dallas Office and prior to that led the private finance teams consisting of both sponsor finance and private equity for the Dallas Office. Since joining American Capital in 2001, Jeff invested over $600 million in various industries including consumer products manufacturing and services, business services, environmental services, niche manufacturing, transportation, distribution and health care. While at American Capital, Jeff also served on and chaired several corporate board of directors.

Prior to joining American Capital, Jeff was Vice President – Finance for Dynamex, a publicly-traded transportation and logistics company with approximately $250 million in revenues where he was responsible for corporate development and acquisitions, investor relations, bank relations and treasury while serving on the senior management team. From 1996 to 1998, he was with BACE Industries LLC., a Denver-based private equity firm where he was the Vice President of RentX Industries Inc., an equipment rental industry consolidator. Prior to joining BACE, he was with Banque Paribas from 1991 to 1996 as a Vice President in the Merchant Banking Group where he focused on senior debt financings and equity co-investments primarily for private equity sponsors. Mr. MacDowell was with CS First Boston in the Dallas Investment Banking group where he gained corporate finance experience in initial public offerings, public equity and debt offerings, private debt placements, M&A, and corporate restructurings.

Jeff graduated magna cum laude from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Jeff lives in Dallas area with his wife and two daughters. Jeff enjoys photography, technology, hiking, paddleboarding, traveling and volunteering.

TODD STERN

Partner

Prior to co-founding Hillstar Capital in 2014, Todd founded and has acted as Managing Member of Alliance Diagnostic Group LLC ("ADG") since 2012. ADG is a Houston, Texas-based management services company that oversees the operations and administration of healthcare businesses.

Before ADG, Todd was a Vice President in THL Credit’s direct lending group where he sourced and evaluated middle market investment opportunities, executed transactions and managed portfolio investments in multiple industries. Before joining THL Credit, Todd was a Managing Director at Capital Point Partners, an investment firm providing subordinated debt and equity capital to middle market companies.

Prior to Capital Point, Todd was Portfolio Manager at W Capital Partners, a private equity firm in New York that acquires direct private equity and venture capital investments in the secondary market. Todd tracked, monitored, and reported on the firm’s investment portfolio and oversaw certain investments within the firm’s funds.

Todd began his finance career in investment banking at J.P. Morgan's Mid-Corporate Investment Banking group. Todd initially started out as an Associate Attorney in the Public Finance group at the international law firm, Sidley Austin LLP, where he acted as bond and underwriter’s counsel on bond financing transactions.

Todd received a BBA with high honors in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin, a JD with honors from The University of Texas School of Law, and an MBA from Columbia Business School in 2008. He is licensed to practice law in the State of New York.
